Myrna Pena

Myrna has been a full-time licensed massage therapist for over twenty years, since 1998 after graduating from the renowned Swedish Institute. Her background is the high-end spas and luxury environments of the hotel industry in New York City.
She moved from a career as a lawyer in her country of origin, Colombia to follow a path in the healing arts when she came to New York. She was introduced to massage therapy through a recovery regimen after a car accident. Amazed at the newfound strength bodywork gave to her healing, she decided to go into that field.
Myrna’s style is a blend of therapeutic touch and relaxing bodywork customized for each client. She has a highly intuitive, mindful and thorough approach to her work and carefully listens to the body in order to effectively communicate with it.
She likes to think of massage as a living performance art as she goes beyond the boundary of technique labels. She synthesizes all the elements of evaluation, technique and method into an intuitive healing dance to guide her clients on a journey towards greater awareness, sensation and insight.
She believes massage can be harmonious dance with the body and spirit and encourages longer sessions to allow more time and space to explore these concepts. She is very focused on her clients individual needs and her massage is both specific and flowing.
Her style combines the deep relaxation of firm, rhythmic massage with therapeutic techniques to relieve muscle tension and discomfort.
She combines the most effective and enjoyable elements of myofascial release, trigger point therapy, reflexology, swedish massage, stretching and  deep tissue. Her style is also heavily influenced by the flow of Lomi Lomi forearm massage -a Hawaiian bodywork modality that harmonizes with her naturally rhythmic yet therapeutic style. She also loves working with hot stones, appreciating their grounding, warm and soothing qualities on a treatment.
Myrna believes that massage does not have to hurt to be effective. By focusing  on each client’s sense of comfort and relaxation, she can help to achieve deep tissue results without pain or discomfort. She hopes that each person  leaves her session with a sense of grounding calm as well as an increased range of motion and fluidity.
